Spring!

I am loving spring, taking joy from fresh blossoms and warmer days. Last week I stopped to look at the new crocuses on the hillside and thought of how this will be the first spring that my Grandma Pope won't be alive to enjoy them. Crocuses always remind me of her.

As usual, I've had my eyes peeled for ducklings and goslings on the river near our house. Yesterday while running by the river I spotted the first goslings of spring. They were insanely cute and I wanted to walk down the bank for a closer look. Unfortunately, they were guarded by their freaky, hissing Canadian Goose parents whose beady little eyes are constantly calculating how much force it would take to break my forearm. I can't wait for baby ducks!

Canada Geese are MEAN! Mark tried to pet one a couple of years ago when he was feeding it at the zoo. It bit his finger and wouldn't let go. More than anything he was just really embarassed. I had a good laugh though because he teases me about being a city girl, but even I knew not to pet a canada goose.

Also, I could probably write an entire post about the expression 'keep your eyes peeled' because I get the rankest visual in my head every time. I picture someone peeling their eyeballs with a potato peeler. It looks kind of like it would look if you peeled a grape, all firm and soft on the outside, but chunky and gross once peeled. Sorry, now you might never be able to enjoy that expression either...

I love summer.
Avey, I don't really know you, but that is kind of an odd thought. Not to say I didn't enjoy it.

Avey, I also don't know you but have THE EXACT SAME DISGUSTING MENTAL IMAGE. every time I hear that expression I imagine that same thing, potato peeler, grapes and all. And when I eat grapes, I often peel them (so that I don't eat them so fast) and I always think of eyeballs. I wonder where that expression comes from...I sense a time wasting but fascinating Google search coming on...

'keep your eyes peeled' reminds me of a geriatric home with a whole bunch of old people on the front stoop saying things like, 'the truth of it is' or 'the problem with _ is _' Jamie, I think your just warming up for retirement.

Where did your post about the bird on your anniversary go?

All I can say is NEVER EVER make eye contact with a Canada goose - those things are horrid!
