30 Days to Decide

Last week I bought a little rug to put on our front step. I got it in the morning and put it out before Kyle came home for lunch. The first thing he said when he walked through the door was: "Yuck! Who gave us that ugly thing at front of the door?"

Like a good man, he quickly back-peddled when I told him that I had in fact made a conscious decision to bring this hideous object into our lives. According to Kyle's second appraisal of the rug, it isn't so bad, especially considering that it's just for people to wipe their feet on. He just hasn't really liked "that colour" since he went through a teal phase grade six. I guess teal is so 1992.

Then our friend Bjorn came over for dinner and I asked him to vote on whether I should return the rug. According to Bjorn, "it looks like something you would throw away after finding it in your grandma's basement." That sparked a bunch more jokes about my other old lady loves such as prune-flavoured yogurt and lentils.

But I still like the rug. And I bought it at Urban Barn, so it must be cool. What do you think? Should it go back from whence it came?

I don't feel I should get involved in the middle of the rug controversy. However, I don't think it's offensive and seems to do the job. Can I even go so far as to say I like it???

I did want to remind you and your audience of another old lady tendency you have (my favourite one too): your love for and ever present pocketful of trail mix.

What made my trailmix even more old-ladyish at our practicum was the fact that I kept it in a yogurt container.
I considered giving Janet a bag of trail mix as a goodbye gift when we left.

Based on the picture you posted I like it. I have pyjama pants that have a very similar pattern.

James,
I think you should keep it, if only to have one more old lady thing we can all harass you about (ahem, parsnips?). And of course, it's always good to have such an inocent point of conflict in your marriage.

I LOVE the rug. As soon as I saw the picture (before reading the post) my thought was "Ooh, I hope that's her new wallpaper!" You should absolutely keep it. And it doesn't really matter if Kyle likes it or not because you get to decorate the house and he gets to decorate the man room.

I love it. If you don't want it, I'll find somewhere for it. Lesley also has a room that are these colours she may interested as well.
If I were you I would keep it, it is beautiful!

I do like the idea of the man room. I think our whole basement is the man room and it's decorated with hockey equipment and fishing gear.

The picture doesn't do that horrible thing justice.

I like the rug, it feels more retro than old lady.
But I'm betting you'll get a doily out to put on it soon or something
